Alex Rubia
I’m Alex, a software engineer based in Barcelona, Spain. Since 2007, I’ve built e-commerce platforms, co-founded a startup and led engineering teams as CTO. Today I’m a Senior Software Engineer at Postman, where I’ve worked on its public API and now contribute to Fabric, its API gateway.
My background spans backend development and infrastructure. I enjoy following a problem all the way through: understanding what the product needs, designing the API, writing the code and seeing how it behaves in production. Running my own servers early on taught me to care about the parts beyond the application: deployments, performance and observability.
I still make time to build my own products, from GymOrbita to PintaMundos. Working on an idea from start to finish keeps me close to the people using it and the trade-offs behind each feature. AI is part of that process: I use it to explore and iterate, while taking responsibility for the code and technical decisions.
skills
I value code that another engineer can understand, systems that are straightforward to operate and technical choices that fit the problem. My work brings together API design, backend services and infrastructure.

work
Senior Software Engineer · Postman ref → Andrea De Pirro ↗
Worked on the public Postman API with an OpenAPI-based, design-first approach, partnering with internal engineering squads to help them expose their APIs consistently. Alongside my team, I built its SDK and MCP server, as well as developer tooling to support those squads. I now work on the core team of Fabric, Postman’s API gateway, focusing on reliability, infrastructure, performance and observability.
Senior Software Engineer · Softonic ref → Jose Manuel Cardona ↗
Developed and evolved the backend of a large-scale software platform, applying TDD (Test-Driven Development) and DDD (Domain-Driven Design). Worked with an event-driven architecture to communicate between components and coordinate processes, alongside infrastructure and observability work.
Senior Software Engineer → CTO · FloraQueen ref → Enric Masdeu ↗
I came back as an engineer and ended up leading technology for the international flower e-commerce: development, technical decisions, AWS infrastructure and the evolution of the platform.
Senior Software Engineer, Team Lead · Stuart ref → Bruno Pedro ↗
Led an engineering team on a last-mile logistics platform: development, technical coordination and product delivery in a demanding environment.
Senior PHP Developer · FloraQueen
Four years building and evolving the e-commerce. This is where a relationship with the product began, one that years later brought me back as CTO.
PHP Developer · Franklyn Hotels & Resorts, Cmedia
The beginning: web development in PHP, turning a hobby into a profession.
projects
PintaMundos
A native iOS app where children explore worlds and color illustrations. It includes color guides and memory and math challenges, with an interface designed for painting with a finger.
GymOrbita
A personal project for organizing workouts and tracking progress at the gym. It includes routines, progress tracking, ranks, GymBros and gym management tools. The backend runs on Cloudflare Workers and D1.
CTO · ICNS ref → Mireia Gimeno ↗
A freelance collaboration alongside my main engineering roles, leading technology for the Institute of Nutrition and Health Sciences. I worked on architecture decisions, development and the evolution of its systems, translating the institute’s needs into technical implementation.
CTO · Cyrcle
A personal project where I led the technology of a startup, from architecture decisions to product development.
Co-founder & CTO · Vinilitos
My first startup, where I was co-founder and CTO. We built an online store from scratch on our own MVC framework with PHP and MySQL. My work spanned development, Apache server setup and administration, and SEO: an early experience taking a product from idea to operation.
